XAT 2009 PAPER
XAT 2009 PAPER was another pearl in the shell for the not so easy management exams. Some typing errors, some wrong questions (assumable) and a difficult level paper made life hard for students. But then again, this is what the XAT exam is all about, isn’t it??
XAT 2009 PAPER SECTIONS
The XAT 2009 Paper had the standard format with nothing new as such in terms of sections. The negative marking scheme was the same as before, differential marking i.e. 25% for the first 5 wrong answer and 50% henceforth. No wonder, XAT is the supreme test of accuracy where bluffing = sin. 🙂
LR/DM – There were 8 questions in Decision Making part, tricky and thought provoking. The rest of the section was based on LR i.e. 23 questions. The questions were tough but in our opinion the sets at the end of the section were a tad easy. Expected Cut off were around 9-10.
Quant/DI – We hope you know that the XAT paper has both Quant and DI in the same section. This is not the case with CAT though!! Anyways, this had the same pattern. There were 3 sets of DI with a total of 10 questions. Around 5-6 were pretty doable. Then there were 9 questions from Arithmetic and 9 from Algebra. Geometry took a back seat at just 4 questions. All in all, 6-7questions from the quant part were manageable in 20-25 minutes. Expected Cut off were around 7-8.
Verbal Ability – CR and RC aka Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension formed almost 80-85% of the paper. The surprise element here was the presence of questions based on figure of speech. If you knew about these, you could have given a strong boost to your overall and sectional score. There were quite a few of these. Expected cut off were around 11-12.
CUT OFFS FOR THE XAT 2009 PAPER
The cut offs, as the norm with XAT paper, were on the lower side, just a shade above 30 i.e. 32-33
The Expected Cut off for various institutes has been displayed below. Please note that these cut offs are just approximations because XAT results never mention the score of a candidate making it impossible to guage the efficacy of predicted cut off accurately. For XL PMIR, the cut offs are normally a mark or two lower. Also, for BM, the quant section cut off is normally on the higher side while for PMIR, English cut off is on the higher side.
