Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. I’m still confused about the difference between a data analyst, a data engineer, and a data scientist. Can you give me an example of their work?

Ans: Data analysts analyze numerical data and interpret it for companies and organizations to help them make better decisions. They identify data trends over a period of time and make inferences that are useful in minimizing operational risks.

Data engineers are involved in the development of an architecture necessary for preparing, testing, and maintaining databases. They ensure that they deploy machine learning algorithms to enable seamless data analysis and operations.

Data scientists are involved in data collection, data sifting, building predictive machine learning models, and developing & testing hypotheses. They work with complex data and present it in charts and tables to be interpreted by data analysts.

Q2. Can a data scientist be a data analyst?

Ans: Data scientists have more complex roles than data analysts. As such, a data scientist can carry out the roles of a data analyst but not vice versa. In most cases, a data analyst requires a bachelor’s degree in finance, statistics, mathematics, or computer science. On the other hand, a data scientist requires a Master’s degree in data science, mathematics, information technology, or statistics.
