Introduction

IIM Calcutta is a public business institution that was established in 1961. It is located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. In 2017, the government of India recognised the institution as an Institute of National Importance. Course Objectives

The programme introduces students to different tools and techniques used to handle, manage, analyse, and interpret data. It offers them hands-on experience using analytical tools such as Tableau, Apache Spark, SPSS, Apache Storm, R, XL-Miner, and Arena. This programme will utilize techniques and theories obtained from different fields including statistics, information science, operations research, mathematics, and computer science. By the end of the programme, the students will be able to apply data science in different sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure management, e-commerce, atmospheric sciences, and financial markets, among others.

All students will undertake core courses like Econometrics, Machine Learning with R, Mathematics for Data Science, Stochastic Process & Simulation, Big Data Analytics, Data Warehousing & Data Management, Data Interpretation, Analysis, & Visualisation, and Decision Support Systems.

Admission Process

All prospective candidates are required to apply for the programme online through the VCNow application platform. They must fill all the forms and upload them before the deadline, as stipulated by the institution. Additionally, candidates must provide proof of work experience and self-attested academic and identification documents.

Upon receipt of the application forms, a selection panel will evaluate the correctness of the documents and whether the candidates have paid the required fee. Additionally, the candidates will undertake a Programme Aptitude Test conducted by VCNow.

The candidates will then be selected based on their qualifications and performance in the aptitude test. All selected candidates will be informed through the email address they provided during the application process.

Pedagogy

The programme is delivered through interactive online classes held through VCNow virtual platform. The lessons are held once a week (on Sundays from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM). However, lecturers may organise lectures on select Wednesdays from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM). Students must attend at least 66% in each of the courses to graduate.

Additionally, students will be required to attend three campus visits to interact with faculty members, students, and lecturers. The visit helps the students to seek clarifications, have engaging sessions, and ask relevant questions. This in-campus component must total to a minimum of 10 days (3+4+3 days visits).

Lecturers use different methods to evaluate students, including continuous assessment tests, assignments, group discussions, case studies, mid-semester exams, and end-semester examinations. Learning materials are either distributed during campus visits or shared online through the Online Learning Management System.

Eligibility

Interested candidates must be working professionals/ self-employed individuals with at least 3 years of post-graduation work experience. They must be holders of a bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) or post-graduation from a UGC/AICTE recognised university with at least 50% aggregate marks.

All fees are payable to UCS LLP. Students can use Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card to complete the payment.

Loan & Scholarships

The institution offers loan support to students through leading banks in India including HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, and ICICI Bank. However, the institution does not offer scholarships for this programme.

The programme comprises working professionals drawn from different sectors, with the leading being IT. Other sectors include manufacturing, banking, consultancy, family businesses, construction, and government agencies. A majority of the participants are male in managerial positions.
