Introduction
PGDBA is a tri-institute course offered by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and ISI Kolkata. The students are required to visit the 3 institutions in intervals. The 3 institutions have unique expertise and competence in different areas of the course.
IIM Calcutta focuses on the application of analytic processes in various areas of management, ISI Kolkata offers statistical and machine learning theories while IIT Kharagpur train on the technology sections of analytics.
Course Description
IIM Calcutta data science course takes approximately 22 months. All students must undergo an internship-based project for a minimum of 24 weeks to gain hands-on experience
The admission and orientation program takes place at IIM Calcutta. 1st semester (ISI Kolkata), 2nd semester ( IIT Kharagpur), 3rd semester (IIM Calcutta).
Students cover one semester in each of the three institutions while the last semester is reserved for industrial attachment.
All students must cover the core courses including Statistics, Computing, and Management. It is designed to fill the gap of professional business analytics in multinational and domestic organizations.
The program is designed for professionals with an analytical mindset and the urge to solve complex business challenges. Candidates must have an interest in pursuing mathematics.
The curriculum guarantees hands-on analytics practical sessions and interactions with industry leaders.
Lecturers use up-to-date training techniques including guest lectures, digital discussions, dissertations, practical sessions, field visits, and group discussions.
Eligibility
Candidates must possess a graduate or postgraduate degree from a university recognized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
All candidates must have followed the 10+2+4 system of formal education. Candidates must have a valid CAT/GATE/GMAT/GRE scorecard.
Students in their final year are eligible to apply. However, these candidates must meet all the graduation requirements to be registered for the PGDBA.
Application Process
Candidates have the option of using online or offline application procedures. For offline applicants, the forms must be filled correctly (using a dark-colored pen) and submitted to the admission desk at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
Candidates must enclose all the documents requested. Online applicants complete the entire process through an admission portal.
Candidates are required to visit IIM Calcutta’s website, access the application form, and fill in all the details. Ensure that all the requested documents are uploaded before submitting the form.
Both online and offline applicants are required to pay an application fee of Rs 1500 for general candidates and Rs 750 for women, DA, ST, and SC candidates. Failure to pay will lead to an automatic rejection.
Admission Criteria
Upon reception of the application forms, an admission committee selects all the candidates that meet the minimum requirements (as elucidated in the “Eligibility” section).
All shortlisted candidates are invited to physically appear for a personal interview in their preferred center among the following:
- Delhi
- Mumbai
- Hyderabad
- Bengaluru
- Kolkata
During the personal interview session, the candidate’s ability to articulate issues, the accuracy of personal details, and knowledge of business & analytics are evaluated. Every candidate is awarded marks based on their performance.
After the PI, the admission panel prepares the final list of qualified candidates. The factors considered when preparing the final list include:
- Performance in the personal interview session
- Performance in the qualifying exam
- Work experience
- Extracurricular activities
- Any other factor that the admission panel may deem appropriate
The admission officials inform all the qualified candidates through the addresses provided during the registration process as well as the admissions portal.
The candidates are required to confirm their interest within the stipulated timelines failure to which the admission may be revoked.

PGDBA IIM Calcutta Fees
The total fee for PGDBA is Rs 20 lakhs payable in four installments (at the beginning of every semester). It covers tuition, learning materials, laboratory charges, on-campus lodging, and examination materials. However, food-related or travel expenses are not covered in it.
Placement Details
All PGDBA graduates will have access to placement facilities of the three institutions which increases their placement chances. More than 100 organizations participate in the exercise including KPMG, TATA Steel, YES Bank, Cognizant, and Google.
The highest placement offer is approximately Rs 23 lakhs annually with the average being Rs 11.2 lakhs.
Expected Salary
PGDBA graduate’s salaries range from Rs 6 lakhs to Rs 25 lakhs annually. The highest-paid graduates can earn up to Rs 30 lakhs within the first 6 months of professional work.

Ans: Approximately 63 seats per intake.
Q2: Must I reside within the institution?
Ans: Yes, the course is strictly residential. The three institutions have enough hostels to accommodate all the 60 sPGDBA students.
Q3: Can I get a refund of the application fee after an unsuccessful application
Ans: No, the application fee is non-refundable.
Q4: How long will I spend in each institution?
Ans: Every student must spend at least one semester in each of the three institutions. However, all the logistics of translocating from one institution to another are catered for by the institutions.
Q5: Does the IIMC guarantee placements after PGDBA?
Ans: No, the institutions do not guarantee placements. However, every effort will be made to ensure that all graduates get reasonable placement offers.
Q6: How will I know whether my application was successful?
Ans: The entire application process is online. You will be informed by the institution’s representatives about the status of your application. Additionally, you can regularly check the status on the admission portal.
Q7: Can I choose where to start and where to end the program?
Ans: No, the program is static for all students and only transit to the next college as a team. Ideally, candidates cover their first semester at Kolkata and their last semester at Calcutta.
Q8: Can I defer my studies if I have an inadequate fee?
Ans: Yes, students are allowed to defer their studies as long as they provide valid reasons for the action. Institutions reserve the right to accept or reject a deferral request.
Q9: Are the examinations jointly offered by the three colleges?
Ans: No, each college specializes in a given area of expertise. The exams are administered by the lecturers from the respective institutions. However, the marks are eventually merged and a single certificate offered upon completion.
